I’ve reviewed the Citi ThankYou Preferred credit card before and it looks like Citibank has revamped the card. For those that already own this card like me, you automatically get the new benefits.
So here’s a quick overview of what changed. The ThankYou Preferred card now offers:
- (Only new benefit) 2 ThankYou points on every $1 spent in dining & entertainment (entertainment is defined as movie theaters, live performances & amusement parks, just in time for the summer!). Additional information about the category definitions are located here.
- 1 ThankYou point on every $1 for all other purchases.
- No annual fee.
That pretty much wraps the ThankYou Preferred card, all they did was offer more rewards on dining and entertainment categories. Remember, 1 ThankYou point equates to about 1% cashback if you get gift cards from Citibank’s own reward website: thankyou.com.
Current Citi ThankYou Preferred promotion is offering 20,000 ThankYou points if you get the card and spend $1,500 within the first 3 months. This could be a handy card when your rotating category card doesn’t include dining this quarter. You can sign up here if you are interested.
Sadly, my favorite Citi ThankYou Premier card looks to be discontinued. I don’t see it offer at citibank.com anymore, I hope they don’t take it away from current card holders.
No worries, it looks like they still offer the Citi ThankYou Premier card, but they’re temporarily removing the online application and will resume in Oct 20, 2013.

Ok cool, that’s good to know!
However looks like the ThankYou Card is no longer offer, and cards are now upgraded to the ThankYou Preferred (as it happened to me). I had applied for the ThankYou Card 3 weeks ago with a promo I got in the mail. I get 10k TY points after spending 500 within 3 months, great. But now my account was upgraded to the ThankYou Preferred but I’m missing out on that 20k TY points since I didn’t originally applied for it. Oh well.
Hi Marco, you’re right I forgot that there was the ThankYou card and that card program has ended. Have you tried to talk to the Citi customer rep? I would suggest to call them up and ask them about the 20k promo that they normally offer for the ThankYou Preferred. In past experiences, they’ve honored/compensated me in some way for new card members.
