Consolidated Information for the 2018 General Elections in New York

The general election is coming up next week on November 6, 2018. This is basically my research that I did for informing my choices on election day. By posting this I am hoping that it will be of use for others as well.

In order to find out who the candidates are, you will need to do a ballot lookup through Ballotpedia which will give you a look at your options during voting day.

I’m posting this even though I don’t have videos for everyone because election day is tomorrow. I’ll update this post as I come across more videos.

As for New York, the following candidates are up for election:

Question 1: New York Campaign Finance City Charter Amendment

Summary: This amendment decreases the amount that a candidate for city elected office may accept from a contributor and increases the public funding available for a citywide candidate participating in the city’s public matching funds program.

Question 2: New York Civic Engagement City Commission Charter Amendment
Summary: Sets up a Civic Engagement City Commission that has a focus of increasing engagement by the public. One example is to provide translators at voting locations.
Question 3: New York Community Boards City Charter Amendment
Summary: This amendment will impose term limits for community board members, require appointed board members to have a diverse background and for the Civic Engagement City Commissions (if passed) will provide resources, assistance and training to communicy boards.

Flip Your Ballot NYC has an in depth explanation of all 3 with translations into many languages.
